Not enough memory for System Image Backup?

I've recently bought a 2TB ext.
hard drive but Windows Backup states that the is not enough memory to create a Shadow copy.
How is this possible?

2.
The new 2TB HD freed up an internal (seperate) 105GB HDD which I have formatted (NTFS) and again W.
BU says not enough memory.
(All I asked it to back up was the system image).
I have in the past been able to back up to this disk, but not any more.

Both these HDDs are free of any other files.

Please can you advise what is wrong.

Regards,
Robin Hague
(Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit, 1TB HDD + 105GB HDD + 2TB ext.
HDD)
